5 Twilight Wigs That Slay and 5 That Suck
1. Sucks – Victoria in Eclipse
In the first two Twilight movies, Victoria was played by Rachelle Lefevre, but she was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in Eclipse due to scheduling conflicts. This was a huge shame, because Lefevre was apparently a huge fan of the series and was really upset that she could not continue her role. It was also a shame because they put would-be Jurassic World star Howard in a terrible, horrifying wig.
Many fans criticised the casting of Bryce Dallas Howard, not because she was a bad actress (she actually gave a very good performance as Victoria), but because she looked like an actress in a wig, breaking the immersion of the experience. Maybe it would’ve been better if her wig wasn’t so similar to Merida’s hair from Brave (2012)? Ie, a big copper curly mass…
It is distinct and bright, but nothing at all like the very wild, natural look of Lefevre’s hair in the first movie, which worked so well for the character of Victoria, who traverses the wild barefoot and wears the clothes of her victims.
The wig that Howard wore was almost comical, but we are not laughing.
1. Slays – Alice in Twilight
The best and most iconic wig of them all is Alice’s spiky flared out bob from Twilight.
The first in a long line of iconic Alice wigs, this one was perhaps most true to the description of Alice in the books.
In her human life, she had been locked in an asylum and had her head shaved, as well as suffered electroshock therapy, which left her hair short and patchy at the time of transformation. The films took this short and patchy idea and made it more trendy, which Alice would have realistically done, since she was so interested in fashion and style.
This wig had a chokehold on many fans of the films. So many times have tween girls gone to the hairdresser to ask for ‘the Alice Cullen’ and been devastated when they realised that the haircut would not change them into a vampire, and that it was actually a really awkward style to pull off.
Those who managed not to fall victim to this canon event found their queer awakening in Alice’s quirky haircut and whimsical mannerisms – we all either wanted to be her or be with her.
Thank you Alice Cullen, and thank you to your wig.
