10 Best BD Wong Jurassic Park Moments

2. “You bred ‘raptors?”

Dr Wu bred velociraptors? Jeff Goldblum, BD Wong and Sam Neill in 'Jurassic Park' (1993).

Jurassic Park Review

While palaeontologists must lose sleep over the portrayal of velociraptors in these films, it’s hard to argue that they aren’t the face of the franchise.

Thanks to Jurassic Park, velociraptors became one of the most famous dinosaurs there ever were. They are the true adversary in Jurassic Park and, no matter how hard the t-rex tries, they are the face of both franchises. Without Dr Wu’s laboratory that wouldn’t have been possible.

Henry’s blithe attitude to the maneaters he is hatching, combined with Alan Grant’s (Sam Neill) fear and awe, is our cue to hold on to our hats. The raptors are going to be the ones to watch.

1. “It’s really not that difficult.”

Even though Dr Henry is only in Jurassic Park for a few minutes, it is testament to the importance of his character that those minutes make up the top two moments of this list.

The unwitting team of experts have moved swiftly on from the raptor bombshell and are now discussing how the scientists behind the ill-fated theme park can possibly ensure every dinosaur is female.

Henry is so arrogant in this brief exchange. He is so certain of his ability to bend nature to his will. BD Wong goes through a range of emotions – sheer disbelief, a mocking scoff and haughty superiority – as he bickers with Dr Malcolm. “You’re implying that a group composed entirely of female animals will… breed?”

This extreme cockiness is the pride that comes before the six-movie fall. It is the moment every subsequent moment relates back to. What a legacy.
