8. “It needs a mother!”
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Review
In Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Dr Wu is discredited yet still working in the top of his field. Sure, it’s in a basement lab, but work is work. He has been busy conjuring up the diabolical Indoraptor for Eli Mills (Rafe Spall), a man who is very happy spending someone else’s money to create new waves of death and destruction.
This is an interesting moment because it is the first time we see Henry get properly cross. Is he finally exasperated with being a plaything of the super rich? His art is not being appreciated.
It is also the first time we see him acknowledge that nature might be more important than science. He can only do so much… the creature needs a level of nurture he cannot replicate in his test tubes.
7. The Rebrand
In Dominion, the third Jurassic World movie, Henry has gone through quite the reinvention. Gone are the slick grey suits and expensive looking haircuts. He is decidedly shabby in a cardigan.
He’s regretting his part in all this and dressing accordingly. It’s not subtle, but Henry Wu’s rebrand lets us know that he’s ready to use his knowledge for good.
The dinosaurs he could cope with, but the locusts are a step too far.
Lewis Dodgson (Campbell Scott) says, ‘we want control.’ Henry says, finally, ‘There’s no such thing’. Dr Malcolm would be proud.

6. Clandestine Conversations
Vic Hoskins (Vincent D’Onofrio) is Jurassic World’s first bad guy. He wants to exploit the new Indominus rex creation and weaponize it. And he tries to bring in the velociraptors for good measure.
This cloak and dagger conversation proves that Hoskins isn’t working alone. Henry Wu is on board.
Whether he’s driven by financial gain, notoriety and acclaim, or just an inability to say no, isn’t made clear. But this is the first clue that the doctor is a more complex character than he was in the initial franchise.
