10 Best When Harry Met Sally Moments
2. “Could you just hold me a little longer?”

The central question of friendship versus attraction takes the stage within this moment.
After putting on a brave front, Sally breaks down upon learning that her ex-boyfriend is getting married to another woman after he insisted he didn’t want to get married at all. She calls Harry, who comes over for emotional support. It is a scene that is all-too relatable for anybody who has ever suffered heartbreak and witnessed their ex moving on. It is easy to fall into the trap of judging ourselves for our flaws, as if we are the sole reason that our ex has decided to treat somebody else better.
Importantly, Harry is there to counter Sally when she laments her insecurities. When she says she’s ‘too structured’ and ‘completely closed-off’, he sweetly responds with ‘in a good way.’ This leads to Sally asking Harry to ‘hold her a little longer,’ which leads to the pair sleeping together. The tension is finally broken and the friendship is fully put to the test.
1. New Year’s Eve

After an awkward dinner and a heated fight at Jess and Marie’s wedding, Harry and Sally’s friendship completely crumbles. Harry attempts to make amends, but Sally rebuffs him. On New Year’s Eve, Sally attends a party, whilst Harry wanders the streets of New York City… alone.
When Harry arrives at Washington Square Park, where Sally dropped him off when they first came to New York City, he realises that he is in love with her. He sprints towards the party before midnight (as happens in The Apartment) and confesses his love to her in probably the best monologue in rom-com history.
He lists all of the reasons he loves her, the things Sally believed made her unworthy of love or marriage. Tearfully, she responds with how it is impossible for her to hate him, when she really hates him – though obviously we all know that she doesn’t.
They kiss as the tune of Auld Lang Syne plays in the background, then we cut to the wide shot of the party with the pair holding each other in the middle.
