10 Best Bad Santa Moments

2. The Pink Elephant

Willie’s final sprint, clutching a pink elephant (even though Thurman changed his mind and asked for a purple one instead), as the police rain bullets down on him is a glorious climax. It gives us the chance to truly believe in Santa. In this Santa, that is. Believe that he has changed for the good, that he does care, or is at least capable of caring. That Thurman’s incessant friendship has worn him down. The neighbourhood children screaming as Santa Claus is shot in front of them reminds us that we are not safe. This is not a wonderful life.

1. Thurman’s Triumphant End

His bloodied and shrapnel-filled toy from Santa proudly on display, Thurman reads a letter. A letter from Santa. Which is a nice twist. Willie’s narration makes it abundantly clear that he hasn’t changed one bit. Unbelievably he evaded the law. His suicide letter acting as his saviour, warning the police of the Christmas Eve heist. No matter what Willie’s faults are it is clear to see he has impacted Thurman positively. As he confidently kicks the bullying skateboarder in the crotch, mounts his bike middle finger held aloft, it’s hard to believe he was the shy snotty kid that got off the bus at the beginning of the film.
