10 Best Jingle All the Way Moments

8. Ted Chooses the Wrong Tree to Put a Star On

Phil Hartman, as Ted, places the star on top of Arnie's tree in 'Jingle All the Way' (1996).

Adultery is always a tricky subplot to navigate in children’s films, so what better way to represent it than with cookies and Christmas tree decorations.

When Howard witnesses Ted putting the star on top of the Langston family Christmas tree, something inside him snaps.

He decides to break into Ted’s house and steal the TurboMan neatly wrapped under the Maltin tree… and accidently set the house on fire. This is, of course, a perfectly reasonable response to someone wanting to eat his wife’s cookies.

7. Ted the Reindeer

This reindeer barks like a dog and hates Howard. Perhaps he is enraged by his lack of Christmas spirit? Like human Ted, this reindeer causes nothing but trouble. Still, it’s a bit much when Howard stops him in his tracks with a powerful uppercut.

The reindeer’s weirdly human ‘ow’ after being laid out is a Christmas miracle.

Howard and Ted bonding over a beer in the aftermath is proof that really Howard just needs a pal and some downtime. It has been a long day.

6. Howard Has Learned Absolutely Nothing

Finally, this seemingly neverending Christmas Eve is over. Jamie, Howard and Liz have had their big cuddle, and Howard has vowed not to neglect his family anymore.

In the post credit scene, Liz playfully jests that her present must be amazing – given all the effort Howard went to for Jamie. This seems to suggest that she believes the whole day was a planned event rather than a series of completely avoidable disasters.

The camera zooms in on Howard’s dumb, surprised face. What do you mean she wanted a present too?
