42nd César Awards Winners
Paris played host to the French equivalent of the Oscars tonight (Friday 24th February 2017), when the crème de la crème of French language cinema convened at the iconic Salle Pleyel to celebrate the very best of film.
American actor, director and producer George Clooney was awarded the honourary César and accepted with a speech that was equally personal and political, asking the attendees to “not let hate win” and embellishing about how excited he was for the birth of his children.
The major winners at the awards were Houda Benyamina’s Divines and Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World, each of which dominated major categories and accumulated 3 awards each. Ken Loach’s welfare state drama I, Daniel Blake continued its success at Cannes, where Ken Loach won the Palme d’Or, and at the Box Office where the movie made more money than its native United Kingdom, by taking home the ‘Best Foreign Film’ award at the ceremony.
