2020 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) Nominees

The 2020 British Independent Film Awards nominees were announced live via Facebook video Wednesday 9th December 2020, with Saint Maud, His House and Rocks dominating the list of nominees.

At 17 total nominations, it is Rose Glass’ Saint Maud that is the most popular film at this year’s BIFAs, His House sitting on 16 and Rocks on 15. Irish gang drama Calm with Horses and Riz Ahmed passion project Mogul Mowgli earned 10 and 7 nominations respectively.

Overall, 27 different films are represented in BIFA’s list of the best of 2020, with first-time directors Nick Rowland (Calm with Horses) and Rose Glass (Saint Maud) leading their projects to a combined 27 awards nominations between them.

The 2020 line-up for the Best International Independent Film award is one of the strongest in recent years, with French Oscar nominee Les Misérables joined by women’s bodily rights drama Never Rarely Sometimes Always, the critically lauded (7-time AACTA award winning) Australian drama Babyteeth and upcoming Oscars front-runner Nomadland starring Frances McDormand.

The winners of the 2020 BIFAs will be announced in February 2021.
