10 Best Bridesmaids Moments
2. The Dress Fitting
This is arguably the most famous scene in the whole film.
There is something deeply satisfying about a group of glamorously-dressed women in a cream-carpeted room doing unspeakable things into a sink.
Toilet humour is a path well-trodden by men, with hugely famous scenes featuring the bog coming from every genre, from American cinema’s first ever farts in Blazing Saddles (1974), to Ewan McGregor’s dive in Trainspotting (1996), to some hard-to-forget diarrhoea scenes in Dumb and Dumber (1994) and American Pie (1999).
While gross-out humour isn’t for everyone, women doing this sort of thing on screen is not usual. So weirdly, Lillian soiling herself in the middle of the street is an important cinematic moment. Girl power!
1. The Speedometer
Lillian is missing, kind of, and Helen finally acknowledges that Annie might know best. Luckily, Annie knows a police officer who can help with this sort of thing.
Unfortunately, Rhodes is still hurt and doesn’t want to see Annie. So, Annie tries to get his attention with varying degrees of success. In a nice callback to their meet-cute and their first date, Annie draws on all of her terrible driving skills. Speeding, donuts, drinking behind the wheel, topless driving, littering; she does it all. Rhodes’s little blip of the blue lights to pull her over is a lovely little comic detail.
It’s funny because it is unexpected and important; it’s the first moment that Helen and Annie aren’t at loggerheads. It is also crucial for the romantic comedy aspect of the film as it melts Nathan’s cold exterior, letting us know that he still likes Annie. He’s ready to open a bakery with her anytime.
