Netflix Purchase ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’; Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Chastain To Star
Ubisoft have today (10th June 2019) announced that a film adaptation of famous video game ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ is currently in development, with streaming giants Netflix already on board to deal with worldwide distribution.
Announced as a part of the gaming giant’s presentation at annual gaming trade event E3, Tom Clancy’s The Division is set to boast Spider-Man: Far from Home star Jake Gyllenhaal and Dark Phoenix star Jessica Chastain as the leads in its cast, with Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch set to direct.
‘The Division’ became the fastest selling new video game in history upon its debut to the market in March 2016 and has since spawned a sequel, the title’s premise of a near future pandemic caused by the spread of a virus via cash on Black Friday offering the backdrop for a well reviewed action role-playing game. Rafe Judkins, who wrote on TV shows ‘Chuck’ and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, and has written the script for upcoming video game adaptation Uncharted (starring Tom Holland), is charged with adapting the screenplay.
Gyllenhaal’s own Nine Stories and Jessica Chastain’s Freckle Films have both boarded the project as production partners, along with 87North Productions and, of course, Ubisoft Film and Television.
There is currently no release date for this film.
