Streep, Stone, Ronan and Chalamet Set for Gerwig’s ‘Little Women’

Columbia Pictures are putting together an all-star cast for their latest adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s acclaimed novel “Little Women“.

The project, which will be directed by Lady Bird screenwriter-director Greta Gerwig, who is also working on rewrites to the screenplay’s original draft, is looking to re-team the Oscar-nominated filmmaker with fellow Oscar nominees and Lady Bird stars Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet.

Hollywood A-Listers and Oscar winners Emma Stone and Meryl Streep are also attached to star.

Denise Di Novi, Amy Pascal and Robin Swicord are set to produce the project with Andrea Giannetti overseeing the production on behalf of Columbia.

According to Variety, Gerwig was initially drafted in for re-writes to the original script but was snapped up as director by the studio in the aftermath of her success at the helm of Lady Bird.

“Little Women” was most famously adapted for the silver screen in 1994 with an all-star cast including Susan Sarandon, Kirsten Dunst, Winona Ryder and Christian Bale.

The forthcoming movie has yet to be given a release date and is still in its pre-production phase.
