‘Shrek’ Universe To Be Rebooted

It is being reported by Variety that Universal are planning a reboot of the Dreamworks ‘Shrek’ Universe – that being Shrek and Puss in Boots – with the founder & owner of Illumination Entertainment Chris Meledandri set to oversee the project.

Reportedly tasked with aiming the reboot of the animated franchise at a new generation, Meledandri has expressed his intention to reunite the original voice cast that included Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas.

Dreamworks Animation was purchased by Universal’s parent company Comcast in 2016 for $3.8billion. Universal are currently co-owners in Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment. Despite previous speculation, Meledandri denied that he’d be interested in heading Dreamworks moving forward.

The last Shrek movie was Shrek Forever After in 2010, while Puss in the Boots was released in 2011.

Illumination Entertainment are releasing their animated rendition of The Grinch worldwide on Friday 9th November 2018.
