‘Scarface’ Reboot Coming from Luca Guadagnino

According to Variety, Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name; A Bigger Splash) will helm a new reboot of Scarface. The film currently has a script written by the Coen Brothers (Hail, Caesar!; Inside Llewyn Davis) but has seen earlier drafts submitted by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, Jonathan Herman and Paul Attanasio.

Scarface has seen numerous incarnations on the big screen. The most well-known version came in 1983, starring Al Pacino and directed by Brian DePalma. This version itself was a remake based on Howard Hawks’ 1932 film.

Guadagnino is no stranger to remakes, with his most recent film, Suspiria, being a remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 horror classic of the same name. Scarface will join a number of upcoming projects for the director, including a film based on Bob Dylan’s 1975 album “Blood On The Tracks” and an adaptation of Hannah Kent’s novel “Burial Rites” which Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in.

The picture will be made for Universal and will be produced by Dylan Clark Productions, the company which recently worked on Netflix’s Bird Box and the modern Planet of The Apes trilogy. No release date has been announced.
