Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have found their first project since departing Lucasfilm’s Han Solo movie by landing the directorial position on 20th Century Fox’s Artemis, the latest film adaptation of a book from The Martian novelist Andy Weir.
The new movie will be Lord & Miller’s fifth feature length film following Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs (2009), 21 Jump Street (2012), The Lego Movie (2014) and 22 Jump Street (2014), and will partner the duo with producers Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood of Genre Films – the same team behind The Martian (2015). Steve Asbell will oversee the project for Fox.
Weir’s hotly anticipated “Artemis” has yet to be released, but will hit book stores on November 17th 2017 via Crown Publishing Group. The movie will work from the material, though it is unclear who will write the screenplay.
The story follows a woman named Jazz who lives in the only city on the moon. After accepting a job offer she becomes embroiled in a conspiracy to take control of the city, the titular Artemis.
20th Century Fox will be hoping to recreate the commercial and critical success of The Martian, which earned over $640million worldwide and 7 Oscar nominations.
