Kate Winslet looks set to reunite with Titanic (1997) director James Cameron for a role in the upcoming 20th Century Fox Avatar sequels.
Winslet has been drafted in to play a character called Ronal, a key figure in the franchise ahead, marking her first collaboration with Cameron in 20 years. The director had the following to say regarding the casting:
“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career. I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”
There are currently four Avatar sequels set for release between 2020 and 2025, with production having began last week on Avatar 2 and the current schedule at Fox seeing each of the film’s be produced back-to-back over the coming years. It is not yet known whether Winslet will feature in all four movies.
