Five Join Keira Knightley on ‘Misbehaviour’

An upcoming dramedy based on the true story of the Women’s Liberation Movement’s disruption of the 1970 Miss World contest began shooting today (Monday 26th Nov), and the London-based shoot has revealed five new members of the film’s cast.

Joining the previously announced Keira Knightley (Atonement), Jessie Buckley (‘Taboo’) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Free State of Jones) on the movie set to be titled Misbehaviour are Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), Keeley Hawes (High-Rise), Phyllis Logan (‘Downton Abbey’), Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine).

Kinnear will play the Miss World competition’s host Bob Hope.

The picture will be directed by Philippa Lowthorpe (‘The Crown’; Swallows and Amazons) and has been written by Rebecca Frayn (The Lady) with Their Finest scribe Gaby Chiappe reportedly making revisions.

In 1970, the Miss World competition was the most watched show on Earth with over 100 million viewers. The Women’s Liberation Movement that disrupted the event was a newly formed group at the time that invaded the stage during the live broadcast from London, England. That year’s Miss World competition was also noteworthy for being the first to ever name a black woman as Miss World.

Under the guidance of Pathé, Misbehaviour is being produced by Suzanne Mackie (‘The Crown’) and Sarah-Jane Weale, with Left Bank’s Andy Harries and Rebecca Frayn, Pathé’s Jenny Borgars and Cameron McCracken, Ingenious’ Andrea Scarso, BBC Films’ Rose Garnett and the BFI’s Natascha Wharton acting as executive producers.

There is currently no release date for this film.
