Academy Award nominated director Richard Linklater hasn’t left it very long since the release of his most recent film Everybody Wants Some (May 2016) to announce the major stars of his next movie Last Flag Flying, an adaptation of Darryl Ponicsan’s novel of the same name that Linklater himself will write and direct.
The names set to star in the movie that is somewhat of a sequel to the Jack Nicholson starring The Last Detail (1973) are Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston and Laurence Fishburne. Though each actor each brings their own element of star power and attention to the production, their roles have not yet been disclosed.
Amazon Studios are reportedly the favourites to finance the project as the newly developed studio looks to continue their financing of projects by modern auteurs, with their partnership with Woody Allen being the most well-known. The company’s involvement is currently only speculation, though their financial power could be why Linklater’s project has finally managed to get off the ground after over 10 years of negotiations and failed launches.
