Berlin International Film Festival 2016: The Winners

The 66th Annual Berlinale came to an end on Saturday 20th February 2016 with the announcement of the Golden Bear and Silver Bear awards. Here are a list of winners selected by a special panel that included Meryl Streep:

Golden Bear (Best Film): Fire At Sea
Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize: Death in Sarajevo
Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize: A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery
Silver Bear for Best Director: Mia Hansen (Things to Come)
Silver Bear for Best Actress: Trine Dyrholm (The Commune)
Silver Bear for Best Actor: Majd Mastoura (Hedi)
Silver Bear for Best Script: United States of Love by Tomasz Wasilewski
Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution: Crosscurrent by Mark Lee Ping-Bing
Best First Feature: Hedi by Mohamed Ben Attia
Golden Bear for Best Short Film: Balada De Um Batráquio
Silver Bear Jury Prize for Short Film: A Man Returned
Audi Short Film Award: Anchorage Prohibited

The Golden Bear winner for Best Film, Fire At Sea, was a documentary by Gianfranco Rosi that took a look at the island of Lampadusa in Italy, a location to which thousands of refugees have flooded over the past couple of years. You can catch the trailer (in Italian) below:
