Alfre Woodard, an actress whose career highlights include appearances in 12 Years A Slave and Captain America: Civil War, has been cast as Simba’s mother Sarabi in the upcoming live-action The Lion King, rounding out casting for the film’s central characters.
The movie, which has The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau at the helm, will star Donald Glover as Simba with James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa. Meanwhile, Timon and Pumbaa will be voiced by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, with John Oliver set to play Zazu and Chiwetel Ejiofor playing Scar.
While a bunch of beloved secondary roles such as the Hyenas and Rafiki are yet to be cast, the addition of Woodard does round-up casting for the movie’s most central roles, with announcements having come thick and fast since the film’s announcement in September 2016.
The Lion King is currently set for a July 2019 worldwide release date.
