The 2018 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards Winners
The Avalon Hollywood played host to the 7th annual Australian Academy of Cinema & Television Arts (AACTA) International Awards on Friday 5th January 2018, with Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri going home with three major awards, including one for Best Film.
The film, set in the United States but written and directed by British/Irish filmmaker Martin McDonagh, starred a number of recognisable names including 2018 AACTA winner Sam Rockwell (Supporting Actor) and Frances McDormand, the latter of whom was pipped to the Lead Actress award by Australian Margot Robbie for her performance as Tonya Harding in I, Tonya.
With Christopher Nolan picking up the award for Best Direction for his work on Dunkirk, and Gary Oldman winning the award for Best Lead Actor, it was an awards ceremony dominated by filmmakers from United Kingdom, Rockwell and I, Tonya supporting actress Alison Janney being the only North Americans to win at the AACTA International Awards in 2018.

AACTA International Award for Best Supporting Actor: Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri)
AACTA International Award for Best Supporting Actress: Allison Janney (I, Tonya)

The support of the Australian Academy for Three Billboards is the latest in a spate of awards the Martin McDonagh movie has received, and marks the latest signifier that the film may be well celebrated at the Oscars.
