Universal Surpasses $5Billion In Box Office Receipts – New Record

Universal Pictures have officially surpassed $5Billion in box office receipts for the 2015 calendar year and, in doing so, have set the record as the quickest studio to ever reach the milestone.

The studios’ latest release Minions earned over $500million worldwide in just over a week. This brings Universal’s total earnings to $1.709Billion in North America and $3.292Billion internationally. This is in no small part due to the record breaking back-to-back successes of Furious 7 and, more recently, Jurassic World – the latter of which is approaching a $1.5Billion gross at the worldwide box office – as well as the strong performances from Pitch Perfect 2 and the late Winter hit Fifty Shades of Grey.
