Robert Downey Jr. Joins ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Robert Downey, Jr. today secured a deal to star as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Sony/Marvel’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The Spider-Man reboot, set to be directed by ‘Clown’ (2014) director Jon Watts, will continue to develop the relationship between Stark and Parker initiated via Civil War (which is in cinemas this month) and will be released on July 7th 2017.

19 year old British actor Tom Holland is set to play the web-slinging superhero as a part of Marvel Studios’ first ever involvement in the Spider-Man Cinematic Universe.

At this moment it is unclear as to whether the Downey, Jr’s deal was only for Homecoming, or whether it was a multi-picture deal, but the face of Iron Man is known to be signed to the character through Infinity War 1 & 2 which are scheduled to be released in the next few years.

Currently, former Batman actor Michael Keaton is being strongly linked to play Homecoming’s villain.
