After months of speculation linking Brad Pitt and Man of Steel villain Michael Shannon to the role of Cable in ‘Deadpool 2’, the production has officially given No Country for Old Men (2007) and Sicario (2015) actor Josh Brolin the role.
Brolin has signed a deal for four movies, seemingly confirming the long-term franchising of the Deadpool character at Twentieth Century Fox. The actor is now in the unique position of playing two famed Marvel characters as he has been playing the character of Thanos in the MCU’s ‘Avengers’ universe since 2014.
Cable is known in comic book lore as being almost opposites with Deadpool in that he’s serious and often does things by the book. He’s also from the future and the son of famous X-Men character Cyclops, though it is unknown as to whether those aspects of his backstory shall be maintained for the movie.
Filming for Deadpool 2 is set to begin in Vancouver in June, with David Leitch on board to direct following the departure of Deadpool 1 director Tim Miller.
