German Box Office Dips 11% For 1st Half of 2016

Box Office takings in Germany are down 11% for the first half of 2016 when compared to the same period in 2015.

The amount of people visiting the cinema has also decreased, with admissions falling to 57.5million from 66.8million.

Late 2015 releases Zootopia and Star Wars: The Force Awakens are the country’s highest earners in the time period, with the Disney animation earning $34million in the territory and Star Wars VII earning $111million. The highest earning domestic movie is a children’s animation titled Bibi & Tini – Girls vs. Boys, which has grossed $12.6million.

It’s not all bad news for the German Box Office however, as income and admissions stats were expected to fall after the record year the territory experienced in 2015 where figures rose by over 15% in both admission numbers and box office receipts.

The biggest hits of the first six months of 2015 were Universal releases Fifty Shades of Grey and Furious 7.
