42nd César Awards Nominees 2017
Golden Globe winner Isabelle Huppert and notable Oscars absentee Xavier Dolan have been named amongst the nominees for France’s 2017 César Awards, the 42nd annual ceremony. Golden Globe winning ‘Foreign Language Film’ Elle has received the highest number of nominations with 11, while Francois Ozon’s Frantz received 10 and Bruno Dumont’s Slack Bay received 9. 5-time BAFTA nominee and Palme d’Or winner I, Daniel Blake has been nominated for the awards show’s ‘Best Foreign Language’ category alongside Manchester by the Sea and the European Film Award winning ‘Best Film’ Toni Erdmann.
The controversial appointment of Roman Polanski (who is wanted in the US for fleeing the country on charges of statutory rape) as President of the ceremony was addressed by the Academy President Alain Terzain who explained: “the only thing we need to look at is his work as an artist”. It had previously been announced that Polanski would not be accepting the role.
